Yassah Nupolu Lavelah Email & Phone Number | As a leader and a young woman from Liberia who had to survive the scars of war my entire life, I have a great appreciation for the resilience and determination of women. Personally, my leadership evolved out of a long-standing passion I have for infant and maternal health as well as sexual reproductive health and empowerment of teenage girls. Like many girls in developing countries, becoming a leader in my community was not a matter of choice. I had to lead or be subjected to the lifelong reality of abuse, rape discrimination and violence. My mother helped me realized that only one thing could save me - education. She helped me understand that it was the only chance for me to leverage the very tools that have been used to oppress women like her in turning the situation around. From that moment, life had only one goal, ensure every girl stays healthy and alive long enough to get an education. Today I continue to lead because I hope to inspire young women around the world to never give up because the resilience of a woman is the catalyst to breaking the cycle of poverty.
