Several research initiatives aimed at establishing an advanced laboratory in experimental fluid dynamics at SDSU are currently being carried out in my research group. The laboratory is committed to provide scholarly answers to a variety of compelling problems and challenges related to fundamental fluid mechanics research that are of strong interest and in high demand within the academic community as well as industries. In particular, the laboratory focuses on the applications of the novel 3-D non-intrusive pressure measurement techniques to solving problems in turbulence, cavitation, unsteady aerodynamics, acoustics, fluid-structure interactions, shock wave-boundary layer interactions as well as the innovative development of optics-based flow field measurement techniques. The application window for the SDSU and UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Engineering Science for fall 2015 semester is now open. I plan to take 1-2 students in this program to conduct advanced studies in turbulence, with an emphasis on the application of the state-of-the-art non-intrusive instantaneous spatial pressure measurement techniques.
