  Wendy Stevens is a My research efforts since qualification have focused largely in HIV over a period of 15 years. This can be supported by numerous peer reviewed publications and conference presentations. I believe I have contributed significantly to the development of capacity for affordable, accessible HIV diagnosis and monitoring in South Africa and over 60 centres in sub-Saharan Africa. Research activities have included the expansion of EID of HIV, affordable viral load, CD4 and investigation of HIV drug resistance. In 2006, I received an award from the National Department of Science and Technology for my contribution to the development of laboratory capacity in Southern Africa. I have been an adviser to and an investigator for the following HIV research networks: International AIDS Vaccine Initiative(IAVI)(New York),HIV Vaccine Trials Network(HVTN)(NIH funded),AIDS Clinical Trials Group(ACTG)(NIH funded),Microbicide Development Program(UK) and ACTG Pharmacology Scientific Committee, amongst others. In addition, I have had investigator status for a number of international grant funded projects including the CIPRA (NIH: IU19 AI53217-01) project in collaboration with Professor McIntyre and team at Wits University. Other funders of my research have more recently included:Netherlands AIDS fund,Gates Foundation(BMGF),Grand Challenges Canada,Global Fund,CDC and USAID. I have served as a consultant for the World Health Organization (Geneva),CDC(Atlanta) and NIH(Bethesda) on a number of different working groups. I also serve on review committees for UNITAID(WHO),BMGF Grand Challenges. Since November 2010, I have undertaken a role and appointed Head of National Priority Programs (NPP) at the NHLS focusing on laboratory efforts related to priority diseases (HIV,TB and Cervical Cancer). My current portfolio includes options for implementation at scale through the NPP and optimising the clinic-lab chain through innovations for Africa by means of the African Innovation Network called iLEAD.
