We have developed a well-formed Orthopedic Research Program in Wayne State. Our team is composed of surgeon, engineer, biologist, material scientist, computer scientist, imaging expert and statistician. The focus of this Research Program is prevention, early diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of aseptic loosening, the single most common complication of total joint replacement. By working together, we have laid the groundwork by developing quantitative measures of periprosthetic tissue inflammation, development of controllable and targeted drug delivery devices, implant surface fabrication technology and investigation of novel bone graft substitutes.
