  Wai L is a Having worked in Africa, Eastern Europe and South America as a GIS consultant, project lead, and trainer on large-scale environmental GIS projects; I have a broad and deep knowledge of applying GIS to complex problems with a focus on humanitarian development issues. I have over fifteen years of professional GIS experience. Currently, I hold a management position in a specialist team at ESRI (UK) delivering key services through Cloud GIS. My role includes operational management of hosting services as well as tracking and influencing strategy, policy and initiatives related to Cloud GIS Software-as-a-service for ESRI (UK). I hold a Manager’s certificate in System Management from ITIL and very active in continous professional development. Devops and automation are two areas that I am focusing on at the moment. My academic background is in Environmental Sciences and GIS with a MSc in Development Management through the Open University and a MSc in Geographical Information Systems from the University of Edinburgh. I am a chartered Geography (CGeog) with a keen interest in development issues due to direct experience working with UNDP, World Bank and NGOs from around the world when employed with Hunting Technical Services Ltd, now known as HTSPE. I am also a deployable volunteer for MapAction (http://www.mapaction.org) – a disaster mapping charity for the last nine years and have deployed on UNDAC missions to Sri Lanka, Finland, China and Pakistan. In my spare time I play with Linux and FOSS.
