Vivian Rattay Carter Email & Phone Number | My career spans decades as a development and communications professional, teacher, and lawyer. As a grant writer for ArchCare and Women's Housing and Economic Development Corp., I landed over 4 million in grants in three years. Recently, I deployed my outreach skills in support of important public programs, including the 2020 census, vaccine enrollment during the COVID epidemic, and a successful launch of curbside composting in NYC. In my new role as Manager of Institutional Giving at the Paley Center for Media, I am assisting the development team in reaching out to a wide range of new and existing funders for support. My book, Images of America: Rockaway Beach (Arcadia, June 2012), saved an archive of vintage images documenting the founding of the community, just months before Superstorm Sandy destroyed the Rockaway Museum collection and other important troves of memorabilia. The book was the natural outgrowth of my journalism training and experience and efforts assisting local arts, education, recreation and ecology organizations to reach their goals. The book assisted in the revitalization of Rockaway Beach by articulating the goals of activists and entrepreneurs. I received a citation from the Queen Borough President in February, 2015, recognizing me for these efforts. As a NYC Teaching Fellow, I helped launch Channel View School for Research, where as a sixth-grade teacher and school publicity director, my efforts increased applications for admission and created a positive public image of Channel View within the Rockaway community. I am presently a retired lawyer. While actively practicing, I clerked for a federal judge (SDNY) and practiced at top Wall Street law firms and corporations in the communications, technology and consumer products sectors. I have broad platform skills, with experience speaking to large and small audiences, participating in television and radio shows, and facilitating programs of varying sizes.
