  Viswanath Talasila is a I am a Professor at the Ramaiah Institute of Technology where I am pursuing various research problems related to healthcare, virtual reality and automotive technologies. I am currently also the coordinator of a Center of Excellence on Imaging Technologies. I have worked for ~10 years in the industry, one was a government research lab (DRDO: CAIR at Bangalore) and the latest one was Honeywell (Bangalore). I spent 4 years at the University of Twente working for my Ph.D. and later 2 years at Imperial College for my postdoc. My dominant research interests right now are 1) Healthcare: Human Movement (Gait Analysis) – current focus on Children with Cerebral Palsy Using Virtual Reality to provide immersive learning experiences (healthcare, automation) 2) Automotive: Developing intelligent sensing platforms for automobile interiors I collaborate extensively with researchers from other institutes and industry. My current collaborations are with Manipal Hospital and APD (Association for People with Disability). I have started a new collaboration with IIT-M and Stellantis. Healthcare: I am developing systems for the measurement, analysis and control of human movement. The systems that my team and I are developing can be used in the measurement and analysis of movement in sports, dance, music etc. We have already developed advanced systems for the treatment of movement disorders (resulting from stroke and spinal cord diseases). We are awaiting product and clinical testing on all these. My work uses tools from IoT, machine learning, advanced control systems and signal processing. My most recent interest has been in the use of Virtual Reality (even Augmented Reality) to bring a new perspective to rehabilitation therapy. Automotive: I have started work on the design of intelligent sensing platforms for measuring various events in the cabin of a vehicle; such as driver cognitive state, occupant comfort, infotainment personalization and finally safety. This will involve extensive field deployment of state of the art sensors, generating massive datasets and using Bangalore city as a potential testbed for improving vehicle cabin comfort and safety by design of an advanced sensing platform.
