My whakapapa traces back to one of the first waka – Ngātokimatawhaorua - to reach these shores, and my family is peopled with navigators on all sides, ancient and modern. I am grateful for the skills and capabilities that have travelled down to me, to help me steer teams through challenges and opportunities. My maunga is Whakatere, in the Waima ranges, and my moana is the storied first waterway in Aotearoa to see humans arrive, Hokianga-Nui-A-Kupe, also known as Te Kohanga o Te Tai Tokerau (the nest of the northern people) or Te Puna o Te Ao Marama (the wellspring of moonlight). My whakapapa traces back to Ngapuhi, Te Rarawa and Te Roroa, some of the earliest and proudest tribes of Te Tai Tokerau. My colonial ancestry, tracing from Scotland and northern Europe, is also intertwined with the earliest colonial history of Tai Tokerau and Aoteroa New Zealand, helping transport, develop and build the technology required to build the farming and agricultural economy that our modern economic prosperity is built on. I bring to my economic development roles a track-record of leading projects and strategies from inception through to completion, with skills and experience that include: • Strategy development and delivery • People leadership • Business development • Sales, marketing and relationship management • Operations, client services and project management • Developing and commercialising science and technology
