Whilst serving Queen and Country in the RAF, I supplemented my meagre Aircraft Technicians income by selling toiletries, clothes and toys to anyone on the base that would buy them. So began a 30 year career in Sales & Marketing, mainly in the new world of computers, but it led me into the University of Portsmouth and the world of academia. Something I yearned for at school, but did not have the courage to pursue. Firstly Marketing and running the support team at the Management Training Centre, then External Relations Manager and finally as an academic. I managed to bring practice to theory, which my fellow lecturers seem to value. Here I discovered the secret of my success in sales. I am not the stereotype sales person, which was probably why I was never the top salesperson. Some psychometric tests revealed I am a "Creative Inspiring Helper" and my sales came due to the desire to help people. This fits with people I admire like Martin Luther King and Dyson; rather than Margaret Thatcher or Sir Alan Sugar. My online career was maInly to support students and then I broadened out to help managers via Sage Saffron to help people manage themselves, others and their organisations - it was all about Personal Development. Amongst the topics I taught managers and students was time management. I began to appreciate it did not really work for most people, so I started some research and this led to the book. I am now promoting this and the training behind it. This led to my books; The Myth of Time Management and the 21st Century alternative - Timelyness, and & Steps to Timelyness. Having taken 3 years to sail down to Spain with my wife, we then decided to make this our home. More recently my wife opened a Gift Shop and now I help her on the marketing and website
