One is to work with digital prototypes, then you can with your 3D CAD model and a simulation program test and evaluate new solutions at a pace that was not possible before. What is so important is that you drive product development with simulations, not to use them to find faults in the finished product. Once you have decided on the design, the product must be manufactured. The manufacturing aspect must be included already during product development, otherwise the designer can not take advantage of the possibilities with e.g. 3D printing. But 3D printing is not always the best solution compared to traditional 5-axis milling, turning, casting or injection molding, so even here it is important to simulate for the best result. Autodesk software can simulate everything from air & liquid flows, strength, heat transfer, milling & turning paths, injection molding and the 3D printing process. NTI has customers who use Autodesk CFD for heat development in consumer products, they have shortened development time from 1 to 1,5 year. We have Autodesk Moldflow customers who find 85% of all defects in plastic parts already in the product development process with huge savings. We have customers who fully automate the manufacture of electrodes using PowerMill, PowerShape, PowerInspect. And customers who use Netfabb to get a perfect result of a 3D print in cobalt chrome already in the first attempt, it gives a huge saving. If you are willing to change, I can help you.
