I have been working within health care for over two decades now and in that time there has been great changes and challenges, especially in the delivery of support and educational services to health care professionals in rural and remote areas. I am very fortunate to have worked with many leaders and innovators in this area and from my formative days within the Rural Doctor Resource Network, who led the way in providing workforce support and distance education to rural general practitioners across NSW, through to my current position at Hunter New England Local Health District. I'm not a gunna, I am about getting the right results, getting the job done no matter what hurdles one may face and my achievements reflect this attitude. They are about what I have done, not what I am going to do. I think the success of delivering a Telehealth service or any other service is understanding and listening to your clients. The analogy "built it and they will come" does not work for Telehealth services. You need to understand your customer requirements; built a solid Telehealth infrastructure foundation and provide the support mechanism in delivering a Telehealth service. Without the commitment and resources from all parties it is near impossible to implement and deliver a sustainable Telehealth service.
