Trained in Humanistic and Transpersonal principles, I have developed knowledge and experience in working with a wide range of modalities. I helped formulate and subsequently lead a staff and student counselling service at Blackburn College. When I also branched out into private practice I worked with a number of well-known public agencies as both a counsellor and a trainer. I specialise in brief therapy but have also had long-term clients. My work led me to learn more about trauma and its consequences. I was fortunate to be able to attend a Babette Rothschild workshop on Safer Trauma Therapy and this has influenced my work at a deep level. I have also adopted many strategies from NLP which have proved invaluable in my brief therapy contracts. More recently I studied with Cabby Laffy at the Centre for Psychosexual Health, and this focus has brought together the many strands of my previous learning. Education about psychosexual health seems to have been a low priority on most professional training, and in society at large. My approach to therapy is educational, behavioural and psychotherapeutic. I have noticed the huge relief expressed by many of my clients when they gain even a small insight into how their system works.I am committed to working with those who have felt oppressed by the shame they may have experienced stemming from many kinds of trauma. "Mind and Body are one system" is a presupposition that has always underpinned my work, and with an ever-increasing knowledge of the neurological impact of trauma and other forms of distress, I feel even more grounded in my practice, and my mission. I recently completed a course in Neuroscience for Therapists and am a member of an occasional discussion group. Making sense of brain activity in the therapy room.
