Tom Arnot Email & Phone Number | I am widely experienced in the water and waste water treatment industries, both in Europe and in developing countries. This involves research and development for a circular water economy, including membrane technology (micro-, ultra- and nano-filtration, and desalination), membrane bioreactors, nutrient recovery for fertilisation and food, energy recovery via anaerobic digestion, anaerobic fermentation of biowastes for feedstock chemical production, plastics recovery and recycling, and water recycling and reuse. I have worked on municipal, industrial and agricultural waste water treatment, and have particular interests in process integration, modelling and economic evaluation. I am also working on the transfer of sustainable water treatment technologies to developing nations. I have worked in a number of multi-national projects (eg EU projects: OLAPS (industrial waste water), PROMEMBRANE (membrane applications), PURATREAT (municipal waste water)) and am a member of the EU MBR network. I have collaborated with colleagues in North Africa, particularly Tunisia, during pilot trials of membrane bioreactors for municipal water treatment. These demonstrated that water suitable for unrestricted irrigation of human ground crops could be produced at an acceptable cost. I was a partner in the EU WATERBIOTECH project, which involved the evaluation, recommendation and deployment of biotechnology solutions to African partners. I am founder and Co-Director of the Water Innovation & Research Centre at Bath, a truly interdisciplinary research centre involving about 50 academics across the university campus.
