The training included all aspects of the trade including fireproofing and some insulation work. I then moved to offshore AD HOC Fabric Maintenance as a Blaster/Painter including Rope Access. I secured a long term Core Crew position as Paint Foreman on the Claymore Alpha. I then decided to further my career by self funding my NACE1 and then NACE2-Certified coating inspector. I left my core crew position to allow me to get more inspection experience and to work overseas. Initially carrying out inspection work in the North Sea and then Thailand. When this contract was complete I then began a large integrity survey project for Oceaneering for BP's PSVM FPSO in Angola. This was mainly a piping was surveyed using PID and isometric drawings. Some areas of structure were also given severity ratings based on the corrosion condition. With the piping we also worked by Fluid Code (Hydrocarbon lines and safety system lines given priority). A plan was then made for a contractor to mitigate the the high risk locations first. Marked up PID and Isometrics were supplied to the contractor. Further inspection was then carried out to determine wall thicknesses as piping as it was to be blasted and painted online as to not disrupt production. When the contract with Oceaneering was complete I was then asked by Altrad to come in as the FM Supervisor/Inspector on the same project. There was a mixed crew of Angolan and Ex-Pat painters. The Angolan crew had very little experience in blasting and painting especially working on live systems and were given on-site training to upgrade their skillset. They have become an excellent team. There have been no major accidents or injuries.
