Timothy Afable Email & Phone Number | I am a fourth year pharmacy student at Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy who values professionalism, empathy, and life-long learning in the rapidly evolving field of pharmacy to provide quality patient-centered care. I have experience working in specialty pharmacy and currently works in the retail setting. My long-term goal is to secure a post-graduate residency position and work alongside other clinicians as an inpatient clinical pharmacist. My foundation in the biological sciences excites me to learn about various mechanisms of medications and how they affect physiological functions and elicit therapeutic effects. Having an extensive understanding of pharmacy allows me to make wise clinical decisions that positively impact the health of my patients. I volunteer in free clinics such as Riverside Free Clinic and Street Medicine dispensing medications and providing health screenings to the underserved community of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Furthermore, I was heavily involved in vaccinating front-line workers and the at-risk population of San Bernardino county when the COVID-19 vaccine was initially authorized. As a retail pharmacy intern, I ensure patients are educated about their medications to maximize therapeutic benefits. In addition, I play an active role in keeping the community healthy by proactively offering and administering vaccines. As a specialty pharmacy intern, I educate patients on mitigating and managing adverse drug reactions caused by their specialty medications to ensure their safety. As part of the medical staff in Camp Conrad Chinnock, I worked alongside other clinicians in managing the glycemic control of children with type 1 diabetes, where I realized the importance of genuine patient connections in healthcare. My school involvements include serving as president of APhA/CPhA-ASP, PLS delegate, PSN mentor, Rho Chi student tutor, and SNPhA mental health chair. My school involvement further expands my connections and hones my interpersonal skills like leadership, collaboration, and mentorship. I also participated in ACCP's Clinical Research Skills competition where my teammates and I competed against multiple pharmacy schools nationwide and reached the finals.
