Thomas Debnar Email & Phone Number | After studying chemistry at the University of Heidelberg I obtained my diploma in 2009. I have then joined the working group of Prof. Dirk Menche at the University of Heidelberg pursuing my diploma as well as my PhD thesis, which I successfully completed in July 2013. Within my PhD project, I have been working towards a total synthesis of leupyrrin A1, a structurally unique polyketide macrolide of myxobacterial origin. Hence, I have gained a broad experience in the field of synthesis, applying a variety of methods and reactions to highly functionalized molecules. But not only dealing with the assembly of complex structures from multi-gram down to milligram scale, I have also worked on the development of suitable methodologies to gain access to unprecedented structural elements present in the leupyrrins. Within my postdoctoral stay in Basel, Switzerland under supervision of Prof. A. Pfaltz, I was working on the enantioselective hydrogenation of aliphatic imines. The major focus of my work was the design of Iridium-catalysts and their application in the hydrogenation of this substrate class. My position as lab head at the Dottikon ES aimed at the development of synthetic routes toward industrially relevant molecules, such as APIs, synthetic intermediates and performance chemicals. This challenging task not only included retrosynthetical elaboration of new and effective routes, proof of concept of new synthetic strategies but also process design and scale-up to pilot and production scale. In my current position at the Siegfried AG I am responsible for the chemical part of customer projects aiming at the development of large scale manufacturing processes for APIs. This position not only involves chemical and cost-optimization of synthetic routes but also customer care as well as a leadership role within a lab team.
