Theresa Palermo is a From 1978 -2016 I worked at South Country Schools as a Special Education Teacher. For 31 years I taught in a Self-contained classroom. At times I taught 4th and 5th grade at the same time. The last seven years of my career I taught in a fourth grade inclusion classroom. I was the lead teacher for math, science and lower level readers. In the spring of 2016 I received the Suffolk County Elementary Science Teacher of the year award. During my career as a teacher I was actively involved in my union. I served as a co-chair to many committees, building representative and the second Vice President for 13 years. I have been trained in Readers and Writers Workshop, Guided Reading, Running Records, WAITT testing, Interactive notebooks, hands on science and math and turning your classroom into magical places. On s personal note I am lung Cancer survivor 12 years now. Never smoked and had to have my left lung removed. So blessed to be alive.
