His field of specialization is plant biotechnology and post harvest physiology of horticultural crops. Dr. Mutui is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Horticulture, School of Agriculture and Biotechnology, Moi University, Kenya. Prior to joining Moi University he worked with the Ministry of Agriculture in Kenya as Horticultural Extension Agent and Technical Manager, Horticultural Seed Production Division of East African Seed Company. Dr. Mutui was instrumental in writing an IAEA funded project “KEN/5/029: Development of Appropriate Artemisia Varieties for Kenya through Application of Mutation and Biotechnological Techniques for Sustainable Artemisinin Production and Management of Malaria”. Since 2007, he has been a national coordinator for EU-Executive Agency for Health and Consumer’s (EAHC) Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) Training Program. Dr. Mutui was one of lead trainers during awareness seminars on Export Certification and Market Requirements for Fresh Horticultural Produce sponsored by European Union via HORTICAP Project to Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS). Dr. Mutui is a recipient of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) fellowship and 3 Germany Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships. He has research experience spanning over 15 years and has published widely in international refereed journals. He serves as a reviewer for the UC-Davis Hort CRSP Research Proposals and is also an active member of various local and international professional societies and associations. Dr. Mutui is a strong believer in sustainable production in horticulture, post harvest physiology, plant biotechnology, technology transfer and development of critical mass of horticulturist in sub Saharan Africa.
