My research work focuses on early nutrition and its role in the development of type 1 diabetes, asthma, allergies and obesity in childhood, also including registry studies on the associations between environmental factors and those diseases. I am interested in promoting the implementation of healthy and environmentally sustainable diet and nature contacts in children. I also work as a professor of epidemiology (currently part-time) at Faculty of Social Sciences/Health Sciences, Tampere University. Other responsibilities: member and deputy chair of Finnish Nutrition Council; member of the steering group of Nordic Nutrition Recommendations as well as of Food, Nutrition and Toxicology group under Nordic Council of Ministries. The group works with e.g. Nordic food and nutrition policies.
