Susan Currie Email & Phone Number | After graduating in Cell Biology (Hons) and Biochemistry (PhD) from the University of Glasgow, I spent two years as a post-doc at the Headquarters of Lilly Research Laboratories in Indianapolis USA. I then returned to the University of Glasgow to take up a research fellowship in cardiovascular physiology. I moved to the University of Strathclyde as a lecturer in Physiology and Pharmacology in 2005. My research group investigates the role of calcium modulation in cardiovascular disease, specifically examining the enzyme CaMKII, as well as links to inflammation and ageing. As Deputy Director of the Pharmacy programme (2012-2018), I was heavily involved in the delivery, design and accreditation learning outcomes, sitting on and often chairing the MPharm curriculum group, Management committee and Teaching committee. I also led our OSCE group and assessment strategy. As IMU Director (2012-2017), I was responsible for the twinning programme in Pharmacy with the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur. I was the University representative for the Physiological Society (2012-17), am acting ambassador for the BSCR, a BHF alumni member and acting chair of the National Cardiovascular Forum (since 2011). I was made a Fellow of the Physiological Society in 2017 in recognition of my contribution to cardiovascular research and the discipline of Physiology. I am currently acting research group leader of the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases research group in SIPBS (since October 2018). I am on the editorial board for numerous scientific journals and regularly review papers and grants for various funding bodies. In 2021 I took on the role of Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences.
