Sukuma Mkhize is a Data Scientist : I studied physics, mathematics, astrophysics and computers at the Universities of Cape Town & the Western Cape before migrating over to Data Science. I have 5 years of research experience working on big data sets to solve problems in astrophysics first as a graduate student, then as a research scientist intern in observational astronomy. I am deeply inspired when working on techniques from the hard sciences to gain insights into new business models and to drive innovation. When not working on analytics, I serve as as resident science museum curator in astronomy for the SKA SA project. Here my work is at the intersection of astronomy and visual art practices (STEAM) and is aimed at broadening the public understanding of astronomy through some of the most recent discoveries made with South African telescopes. Outside of this, my curation work extends to online radio and podcasting. Here I have sat down on various online platforms discussing topics at the intersection astronomy and creativity.
