After graduating From the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, I was hired by Bechtel in their Nuclear, Security, and Environmental Business Line as a Structural Engineer and spent four years designing steel and concrete structures and various structural components for nuclear facilities. These structures and components had to comply with ACI, AISC, IBC, UBC, and OSHA requirements, were for retrofits and new construction, and many had to address shielding and containment concerns for personnel. Projects I worked on included the multi-billion-dollar Hanford Nuclear Waste Treatment and Vitrification Plant and the Hatch, Vogtle, and Farley Nuclear Power Plants. Wanting to get field experience, I accepted a job offer with McDonough, Bolyard, Peck (MBP) as a lead engineer and assisted with document control and general project management tasks for various publicly and privately owned projects before being assigned permanently as a Change Management Engineer for the multi-hundred million dollar Cannon House Office Building Renewal Project with the Architect of the Capitol. I spent a year in this role before moving up to Assistant Quality Assurance Manager and then Project Controls Manager on the same project. In both roles, I oversaw staff, both in person and virtually due to COVID restrictions, and worked directly with Contracting Officers and Project Managers. I'm continuing to develop my leadership abilities and round out my project management skills and intend to apply for and obtain my Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification as I continue on my path to becoming a Project Manager.
