Steven Tungate Email & Phone Number | I have a heart for men and women serving in ministry. With more than twenty-five years of pastoral ministry experience, and ten concurrent years of teaching at the university level, I have endured the tremendous joys of ministry as well as the hurts and bruises along the way. Today, my ministry involves developing systems and resources for those training toward ministry service, ministry coaching, and pastoral supervision. I have served in churches from the rural "thumb" of Michigan to a multi-ethnic church in the state capital city where songs of worship were sung in Swahili, Nepali, Haitian Creole, and English every Sunday. I have had the privilege of leading and/or accompanying groups to Nicaragua and Costa Rica while developing local missions through service projects and preaching points at often neglected adult foster care homes and low-income housing facilities. I have a deep passion for offering pastoral care and for teaching and training at all levels. Over the past few years, I could be found leading groups of men in addiction-recovery, studies for people new to America under refugee status, couples' groups, mentoring those discerning a call to ministry, teaching classes for women and men pursuing ordination, and teaching courses at the university level. I am a life-long learner; this keeps me fresh in ministry. Since graduating with an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, I have earned a D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of South Africa under the tutelage of the late Billy Abraham as a Polycarp Fellow at Southern Methodist University and then at Truett Seminary at Baylor University. I have also spent time in research at the University of Oxford, England and Southern Methodist University, and engaged in certificate-level training in ministry coaching through Azusa Pacific University and reflective pastoral supervision through the Wesley House Cambridge in the UK. My research and teaching interests include Wesleyan theology, spiritual formation, pastoral theology, church history, inductive Bible study, medieval spirituality and Christian mysticism. As a graduate in biology from the Lyman Briggs School at Michigan State University, I also appreciate good dialogue about the intersection of faith and science. I love spending time with my family, travel, reading non-fiction from people long-passed, nature, home renovation (mostly), watching March madness basketball, and as a trained artist I enjoy painting and drawing.
