  Steven Swagler is a My interest in precision engineering began only a few years ago but my interest in mechanical systems started before I can even remember. As a young boy, I was always following my father around trying to do everything he was doing. He was a helicopter pilot and mechanic. When something broke down or needed an upgrade, he did not call the mechanic or the Plummer, he did some research, he figured it out, he fixed it. This was the cheaper option and my family did not have to rely on other people to get things done for us. It was not long before I began to do the same things. If I wanted a go-kart or an RC toy, I would save my lawn mowing money, buy a used or broken version, fix it, and boom I got what I wanted at a lower price. Most of the time I would spend less and get a better item in the end. I soon began fixing broken mechanical systems and selling them for profit. It feels good to bring life back to things that others would have just thrown out. Throughout my childhood, I learned how to do so much with my father, and this lead to my high school job as a marine engine technician and the spot as the lead mechanical and electrical fabricator on my high school FIRST Robotics team. Senior year of high school I applied and was accepted to the great mechanical engineering program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In my four years of undergraduate education, I worked hard in academia, I participated in on-campus jobs, I worked multiple internships and began a graduate degree. I continued my education and received a masters degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in optics manufacturing. I started my Career at Moore Nanotechnology Systems where I was a process development engineer. I now work as a manufacturing engineer the optics department at Lockheed Martin.
