Steve Rodgers Email & Phone Number | I started my career in technology leadership 35 years ago, when I reported to the Nuclear Submarine USS Houston (SSN-713) in the fall of 1992. A recent graduate of Rensselaer and its NROTC program and the Navy Nuclear Power Training pipeline, I was excited to put my five years of science and engineering training to the test. The Houston was the perfect ship to do just that. Arriving days before a planned six month Western Pacific deployment was an ideal circumstance for anyone who wanted to be pushed hard. The long underways over the next six months provided me with ideal conditions to qualify in Submarines rapidly, having my gold dolphins pinned on seven months after my arrival on board. Over the next two and half years I served as main propulsion assistant, communicator and damage control assistant. I acted as the ship's ORSE drill team leader, CMS custodian, diving officer and QA officer as well. I qualified nuclear engineer in the spring of 1995, completing the last required milestone of my JO tour. In the Fall of 1995 I returned to the MARF prototype in Ballston Spa, NY to serve as a Shift System Engineer and eventually Production Training Officer, responsible for the training of over 600 nuclear engineering students. In the fall of 1997 I departed from the Navy and began my life as an engineer with the General Electric Company. Starting out as a manufacturing engineer in their CT scanner division, I quickly realized that my real interests lie in information technology. While getting my masters in IT at Northwestern, I took on a roll in the IT system department running the rollout of Oracle ERP to the manufacturing floor. After graduation I wanted to find a position inside GE that would really challenge my new IT education. In the winter of 2003 I took a position as an IT project manager with GE's credit card division in Connecticut. I was able to hit the deck running yet again as the leader of the company's first MasterCard and Discover products. Over the next 2 years, I eventually moved into the Ecommerce department leading efforts to modernize our online servicing, ebill, payment, chat and email systems. I also led the separation and migration of all of our online systems from GE when we separated to become Synchrony in 2015. In October of 2021 I took on an exciting challenge to become the company's first product engineering leader. In this role I am leading a team of architects tasked with modernizing our product and partner onboarding systems to allow Synchrony to continue to grow.
