Stephen Mitroff Email & Phone Number | My research focuses on the study of visual cognition – examining the nature of visual memory, perception, and attention. With funding from the US Department of Homeland Security, US Transportation Security Administration, the US Army Research Office, DARPA, NIH, and Nike, Inc., I have explored how experiences influence vision and attention. Broadly, I examine individual differences to reveal how it is that some people can outperform others, how can we quickly and easily identify the best performers, and how can we then train those individuals to make them even better. We use a massive dataset to explore issues about the nature of visual search and overall cognitive performance. My research program works at the intersection of academia and industry to bridge the realms of theory and application. In my role as the Chief Science Officer at Kedlin Screening International (KSI), I work to improve security operations by helping organizations identify candidates who are likely to be successful security screeners, and helping organizations assess their current workforce. Our XRAY Screener tool is an innovative tool that has been proven to predict aviation security officers accuracy and speed at the checkpoint.
