A graduate of Cambridge University, England, and the University of Virginia School of Law, he is the author of a book on modern legal theory, and has co-authored two books on feminism, gender bias and the law. He was also an editor of the 6th edition of Black’s Law Dictionary. In addition, Professor Hicks has published over thirty articles and papers in the areas of legal theory, the history of ideas, and comparative law. He is also an experienced mediator and arbitrator specializing in personal injury cases. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, a Visiting Lecturer at Helsinki University, and has taught at Lund University, Sweden, in Muenster, Germany, and Hanoi University, Vietnam. He has spoken at conferences and meetings around the world through his activities in the American Society of Comparative Law and the International Association of Legal and Social Philosophy. In his role as director of the LL.M. he has visited law schools and lectured on the internationalization of legal education, globalization, and transnational lawyering on every continent and in every hemisphere.
