Diverse travel from the swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin to the glaciers of Iceland has fueled this interest. My goal? Encourage people of all ages to reconnect with nature. Making art has always been part of my life. Growing up in Western Pennsylvania, my sister Leslie and I were exposed to a wide variety of art materials and techniques. My family has an artistic heritage; my grandfather was a glass designer in Pittsburgh and my father spent a career in graphic arts and advertising. Obsessed with animals as a child and fueled by trips to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, I spent hours in woods and wading in streams. Taxidermy correspondence courses in high school led to appreciation of creature anatomy, as did time after college drawing small mammals and rodent skulls as a volunteer with the Mammals Division at the Carnegie Museum—it was also more fulfilling than my "real" job, working in the museum’s telemarketing department. I have a BA in Art from Gettysburg College and an MA in Art History from University of Delaware. In graduate school, painting reconstruction classes (with the conservation program) cultivated deeper appreciation of the craft of painting and materials and techniques from different time periods. My professional experience is in the museum field as a curator, writer, exhibit designer and fabricator, educator and administrator. I'm also a published author for children and adults with established writing and editing skills. Mediums? Colored pencil, watercolor, acrylics, mixed media on paper, board, wood; computer graphics with a Wacom Intuos 4; experience with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Aperture. Digital photography with Canon products. I even have experience with seashells, driftwood, flotsam and jetsam from the Delaware River, and authentic used Mardi Gras beads!
