He was born in Naples, Italy, and from a young age he enjoyed creating and building. When he was 13, Stefano designed and built a set of drawers with secret compartments to hide toys from his sister, which worked well except for the laser gun he once hid and never found again. He did a MSc in biomedical engineering in London at Imperial College, and a PhD at the University College London. He then moved to Cambridge for his first postdoc, and finally in the States to pursue a career in Machine Learning and AI. Many of the projects Stefano has worked on are in the area of signal processing, modelling, and machine learning, most of which have found application to hearing. When he is not busy looking for his laser gun, Stefano enjoys making mobile apps, creating software and playing soccer.
