I have developed a broad swath of tools in my research career, the most crucial undoubtedly being the implementation of critical thinking skills to tackle complex problems. This involves not only patience and organization, to follow delicate threads as they gradually unravel, exposing solutions, but also insight and confidence, to know when a certain thread is a false pursuit, and to be able to put it down for another. My most trusted and powerful tool is that of computer aided mathematics. Theoretical physics research requires multifaceted mathematical methods that I have needed to master, including analytic algebra and differential geometry, differential equation solving (both analytic and numeric), large matrix manipulation, recursive computation, dynamical simulation, and creative graphical data presentation. This last skill is something I believe to be a unique strength of mine. I have always been a visual learner, and have been somewhat shocked by the lack of visual presentation of ideas in the theoretical physics literature. It is amazing how much of the complexity and subtlety of, say, a black hole can be not only captured, but clarified by a few appropriate lines on paper. Outside of physics, I have always been interested in macroeconomics, following the aggregate human behavior of markets, trends and cycles. I have minor experience in Forex trading, and try to stay in touch with global economic and political movings. Recreationally, I am passionate to spend my breath outdoors, whether in my garden, on a bike ride or hiking, camping or climbing.
