Sophie Wuerger Email & Phone Number | I am a professor of vision science with an interest in the neural mechanisms underlying visual perception. Understanding the computations the visual brain performs allows us to develop appearance models mimicking the human visual system which are useful in industrial applications. In 2001, I was awarded a Senior National Research Council Fellowship to work at NASA Ames (CA) on computational vision models. Since then I have held visiting professorships at the University of Regensburg and at the Computer Vision Centre at the University of Barcelona and an honorary professorship at the University of Science & Technology, Liaoning, China. Current interests include: Modelling skin appearance; 3D printing; higher-order appearance mechanisms. My research has been funded by research councils including the Engineering & Physical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the Royal Society and the ESRC. I am a co-founder of a University of Liverpool spin-off company on hardware-free display calibration. This applied research has been funded by the Technology Strategy Board, the Merseyside Investment Funds and other industrial partners.
