Sophie Hinde Email & Phone Number | Having completed my BA (Hons) English and American Literature at Winchester University in 2014 I have pursued a career in museum and heritage interpretation. In April 2019 I began an MA in Museum Studies at Leicester University, I am completing this long distance and part-time as I wanted to continue working in museums. I am currently the Curator at the Nothe Fort Museum of Coastal Defence in Weymouth. I am tackling a thirty year backlog of documentation and collection care needs. Once this initial project is completed I will focus on updating the displays across the museum to reflect the stories of the items in the collection. I have worked in several National Trust properties where I undertook the Heritage skills passport. The National Trust Heritage Skills Passport is a course designed to build the skills of those building careers within the heritage sector. I worked with mentors from different departments to gain necessary experience for researching and developing interpretation. My National Trust roles have included Membership and Visitor Welcome Assistant this role allowed me to see what elements of a properties programme and interpretation are key for visitors and also the impact of good programming on visitor numbers. I was later Visitor Experience officer at the Ashridge Estate, a large landscape property with a visitor centre and over 5,000 acres of woodland. My responsibilities included writing content for the website as well as managing the social media pages. Within the visitor centre there is an exhibition space which I managed and wrote interpretation for as well as developing interpretation for the whole site. In June I left the National Trust to join The Natural History Museum at Tring on a 6 month contract to develop a temporary exhibition titled 'British Dinosaurs' which will open 5th April 2019. I worked alongside researchers, curators and designers to create family friendly content. I also developed a number of smaller displays for cases in the Rothschild Room which explored a Queen Alexandra Birdwing Butterfly conservation project as well as telling stories based upon images and items from the museums archives. I also managed the museum galleries ensuring conservation repairs were carried out and vital work to the gallery databases were completed.
