I immigrated by myself to the United States from Bulgaria when I was fifteen years old to pursue a career in science. I knew no one in the USA and did not come from a scientific family - my parents were rock musicians. I went from growing up in a small village in Eastern Europe to a tenure track faculty at Harvard Medical School thanks to my passion and the kindness of many. I believe that with the right tools, the world has no boundaries and everyday is an opportunity to invent these tools.
