Sharyn Angel Email & Phone Number | Sharyn Angel began her career in 2001 juggling full time teaching and training for the Olympics in Hammer Throw, in which she was ranked 4th in Australia. Pursuing her passion for teaching, in 2015 she was appointed Deputy Principal at Shailer Park State High School and transformed the school’s performance in literacy and numeracy which resulted in Sharyn being nominated for and winning the inaugural Commonwealth Bank Teaching Award. This award gave Sharyn the opportunity to travel to USA, Singapore and UAE to investigate other education systems. In 2021, Sharyn was a finalist in the TeachX Awards and was asked to present at the World Education Forum to share the Strengths Based Approach she implemented at Springfield Central State High School. In 2022, Sharyn opened the new campus of Mastery Schools Australia in Springfield which is a dedicated middle school for students in years 4-10 who have fallen behind in their learning. The school uses Science of Learning to allow students to catch up years of learning in a calendar year. In her first year as principal, students on average achieved 2.5 years of reading comprehension growth and 25 percentile growth in maths in one year. Also in 2022, Sharyn launched the Teachers Change Lives Podcast which celebrates the wild, wacky, wonderful and inspiring moments that occur everyday in the profession of teaching. It aims to make teachers proud to say what they do for a living, it aims to attract young people to choose teaching as their profession and it aims to maintain a positive dialogue about choosing to be an educator.
