Sharon Ewe Email & Phone Number | I am an applied researcher who is currently investigating how human management and development is changing our natural environment, and how all these changes interact with the broader natural climatic changes and cycles. The goal is to utilize my scientific and management skills in an applied setting that creates meaningful impact on policy that serves to improve our environment. ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT, FLORIDA. I currently manage a multi-year major environmental program (>10 million in 3 projects) a Fortune 500 energy company. The implementation of this environmental program is overseen by multiple local, state and federal agencies. Due to the large environmental footprint of the work (~100 square mile), its ecologically sensitive location and multi-jurisdictional nature, there is a lot of interest and oversight from all Agencies, requiring regulatory knowledge of the area to ensure compliance with the permits, orders, and agreements with the many parties (e.g. Class 1 Miami-Dade County, Emergency Orders, Supplemental Agreements). Part of my responsibilities are to also interface with the Agencies on behalf of the client to ensure project compliance. I attend meetings on behalf of the client, provide technical support for their litigation, and facilitate their response to requests for information and analyses. EVERGLADES TREE ISLAND RESEARCH AND MONITORING. For the SFWMD, I am currently managing a field effort surveying invasive exotic species within the tree islands of the Everglades. This work maps the locations of invasive plants and animals within the Everglades for effective control and eradication. I have also done “ghost tree island” research that included conducting field (20 km long transect; >200 soil cores) and satellite imagery analyses to define decadal-scale changes that resulted in island degradation/loss as a consequence of human management practices. Findings from this research are currently being written up for publication.
