Shannon has collaborated and presented an eclectic range of artists and companies, including Todd Rundgren and ETHEL, American Modern Ensemble, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Somi, Roger Guenveur Smith, The Acting Company, Aquila Theatre, Boston Ballet, Pilobolus, Lil Buck, Compagnie Hervé Koubi, Cirque Alfonse and Sandglass Theater. As line producer, Shannon has worked with celebrated musical artists such as David Byrne, Patti Smith, Randy Newman Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, and dance legends Alvin Ailey Dance, Ballet Hispanico, Doug Varone, and Susan Marshall Dance. In her nine years as Director of the Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College, Shannon created a free public programming series that resulted in a 75% increase in community engagement and a 60% increase in grant funding. Through leadership positions at the John Jay College, Brooklyn Bridge Conservancy, and Arts Brookfield, the largest free, year-round performing and visual arts program in the world, Shannon brought over 500 site-specific performances, visual installations, and music festivals to life and worked with artists from six continents and 100 nations. Shannon is strongly committed to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion in the arts, and has led meaningful engagement activities within urban and rural communities. Her curatorial philosophy is to inspire and entertain, surprise, and share joy, and to reflect our global and local communities and issues through the arts. Mayers holds an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS from Northwestern University. She has served the NEA as a grant adjudicator and has lectured at Theatre for a New Audience, Actors Theater of Louisville, Connecticut College, Queens College, College of Staten Island, and Georgia Southers University. She is currently on the boards of Arts Alive! and Arts Presenters of Northern New England. She enjoys playing roller derby and spending time with her son Liam.
