Shannon Lallemand Email & Phone Number | With a degree in Psychology, I thought I was on my way to a career in counseling. I had been interested in it from a young age and genuinely liked the field. Then, a friend and coworker showed me a magical tool that became my electronic wand…An Excel Macro. Armed with this newly discovered wizardry, I became like Hermione in the Hogwarts library. Through research, I learned just the right phrases to create amazing and useful spells, or formulas as the Muggles call them. Unfortunately, just like Harry, I couldn’t spend all my time in this preternatural world. I live in the Huntsville, AL area, and people here will tell you that the world of government contracting is the place to be, and I wanted in. While searching for a home for some kittens I rescued, I met a new friend who connected me to her mentor. He hired me and quickly became a beloved mentor to me as well. Working for the small company he ran, I became familiar with every aspect of managing a program. I wrote proposals, reviewed contracts, tracked funding and spending, and ensured our employees were taken care of. There was just one problem, I rarely got to wield my skills in Excel. At my next job, I worked almost exclusively in Excel and I was enthralled. I moved into the Project Control field and feel like I have found my home. I began creating Excel templates to simplify the data entry that Project Control Analysts get bogged down with and to maximize the ease of interpreting the output. My formats give a concise summary of the projects so that even PMs understand the data quickly. It has become my passion to work with my team to develop tools that save hours of work while increasing the usefulness of the output. I dream in Excel and frequently find myself looking for a piece of paper to jot down an idea about how to improve an existing file or create a new one that I never realized I needed before. I have begun mentoring entry level analysts so that they can create their own formats with a fresh understanding of the field. I reach across department lines bringing in accounting, contracts, proposals, and program management so that our workbooks become the one stop shop for everything you need to know about a project. I believe that creating the right tools for the job allow everyone involved to spend less time stressing about work and more time enjoying their out of office hours, leaving them feeling good about the company they work for. As an added bonus, it gives me more time to dig deeper into Excel. Currently, I’m expanding my skillset to include VBA programming.
