ShanJu Chiang Email & Phone Number | Dr. Chiang is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at North Central College (Naperville, IL). She is committed to disrupting national trends in engineering with respect to women and men of color receiving engineering degrees, and to make North Central College a national model for equity and excellence in engineering! Shan-Ju sees her research as part of the broader effort in the sustainable energy to study the interaction linking human society, environment, and materials development in the contemporary world. As grounded in this area, Shan-Ju is drawn to make substantive across topics such as energy storage systems and renewable energy, all guided by the motivation to improve engineering education. Her research interests include developing ceramic-based flexible electrolytes, synthesizing battery materials at low manufacturing cost, and providing a safe and reliable grid-scale energy storage for next generation batteries. Her research interests can be merged into courses that offer students experience in tackling open-ended challenges as a part of interdisciplinary study. Shan-Ju received her PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, and earned her Bachelor in Double Specialty Program of Management and Technology from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. Throughout Shan-Ju's graduate study, she immersed in community outreach- served and worked as Chair of national student organizations and worked with American Society of Metals (ASM International) Chicago Regional Chapter to lead the summer camps. The combination of her leadership skills and professional experience enables her to bridge the professionals and general public. She also admires opportunities to participate in the cultures of the many societies and nations across the globe to utilize her multilingual skills and expertise in both energy storage systems and advanced ceramics.
