The bridge of firsts , it is going to be the widest suspension bridge in the world with a width of 59 meters and the longest spanning one that has a rail system on it, with a main span of 1408 meters. Another first of the bridge is that it is the suspension bridge with the highest tower of the world, with a height of more than 322 meters.Izmit Bay Suspension Bridge The Izmit Bay Bridge is a suspension bridge located at the eastern end of the Sea of Marmara, close to Izmit and approximately 50 km (31 mi) from Istanbul, Turkey. It will be one of the longest suspension bridges in the world by the length of central span. Construction and operation of the bridge was awarded to a joint venture formed by five Turkish companies (Nurol, Ozaltın, Makyol, Yuksel and Gocay) and one Italian construction company Astaldi following the international Build–operate–transfer tender that took place in April 2009. As of 2010 the contract was signed for the project that is estimated to cost Turkish lira symbol 8x10px.png11 billion for the entire highway from Gebze to Izmir. The construction is expected to be completed in 2017. Design The US$1 billion privately financed bridge, designed by Denish Dissing+Weitling, will connect the northeastern and southeastern coast of the Izmit Bay, significantly reducing regional travel time. Crossing the bay, the bridge and the connecting highway will provide three lanes of traffic in each direction. The most important dimensions are: total length: 2,682 m (8,799 ft) main span length: 1,550 m (5,090 ft) side spans length: 566 m (1,857 ft) clearance: 64 m (210 ft) tower height: 252 m (827 ft) tower size (at the base): 8 m × 7 m (26 ft × 23 ft) deck size: 30.10 m × 4.75 m (98.8 ft × 15.6 ft) The bridge will be fourth longest suspension bridge in the world.Marmaray Project CR3 Contract. 76.3km (48 mile) high-capacity metro style railway connects Europe and Asia by crossing the Istanbul Strait. The project includes upgrading 63km (40 miles) of suburban railway, and purchasing new rolling stock to provide the service. There are four main components of the Marmaray Project: the underwater railway tunnel, improvement of the Gebze-Haydarpasa and Sirkeci-Halkali suburban railway lines, electrical and mechanical works, and the procurement of new rolling stock. With the opening of the tunnel, commuter trains have started operating from Ayrilikcesme station (Asia) to Kazlicesme station (Europe). The Marmaray Project involved the construction of a tunnel under the Istanbul Strait. The idea was first mooted in 1860 but the depth of the water negated using traditional seabed, or below, tunnelling methods. The tunnel is considered to be the deepest immersed structure in the world, 55m below sea level. Its length is 13.6km (8.5 miles) long with 9.8km of bored tunnel, 2.4km built using cut-and-cover methods and the remaining 1.4km as a tube tunnel.
