Serban Cornea is a Serban Cornea is architect and founder of CORNEA, a Copenhagen-based practice founded in 2019 and committed to sustainable urban development and co-creation across the value chain of the construction industry from early project phases. Between 2005 - 2018, Serban Cornea was co-founder and creative director at MUTOPIA, a Copenhagen-based architectural practice committed to providing innovative living solutions by bringing together sustainability and co-creation. Serban Cornea has been the driving force behind some of MUTOPIA's most innovative projects, including VERTICAL HUTONG, a sustainable highrise project exhibited at EXPO Shanghai 2010, DK2050, a scenario project for the green transition of Denmark towards becoming a carbon-free society in 2050, and The SPIRAL, a new typology for a mixed-use house of movement designed to unite self-organized and organized sports activities into one synergistic whole, and nominated for The IAKS Award for Exemplary Sports and Leisure Facilities worldwide in 2019. HM The Queen of Denmark visited The SPIRAL in 2017 to experience how collaborative work between citizens, associations, institutions and architects can create visible, innovative and better results. With a critical outlook forged by living and working in several European countries, Serban Cornea contributes on an ongoing basis the debate on sustainability and urbanism in both writing and lectures, in Denmark and abroad.
