My tenure at John A Martin & Associates was a wonderful experience. I worked on many challenging projects with outstanding mentors: Disney Concert Hall, Eiffel Tower II (Las Vegas), Venetian Hotel, MGM Convention Center, Anaheim Convention Center Expansion and many others. At Nabih Youssef & Associates (NYA) I had the privilege to work under Brent Nuttal, SE. Getty Villa Malibu, UCSD Eleanor Roosevelt Campus and many other varied and interesting projects were part of my resume at NYA. Currently, I am a principal at Coffman Engineers. We are a multi-discipline engineering firm providing FCSMEP consulting services. Our structural work consists primarily of healthcare, education, industrial, commercial, mixed-use and seismic retrofits although our portfolio runs the almost the full gamut of structural engineering services. Coffman projects include numerous viscous damper retrofits of steel framed buildings, two new base isolated structures for Cal-Trans/CHP, a major remodel of the SLS Hotel, a new surgical tower in Whittier, and two new LAUSD elementary schools. I have co-authored technical papers on BRBF, Viscous Fluid Dampers and Non-Linear Push Over Analysis found in national engineering publications. I started in the building industry as a carpenter and then obtained a California general and electrical contracting licenses. Twelve years after starting in construction I felt a strong calling to become a structural engineer. My change to structural engineering was the best decision of my working career. I love the design and analytical challenges. I enjoy working with architects to make their dreams a reality. Specialties: Seismic Retrofits, Non-linear Modeling and Analysis, Base Isolation, Viscous Damping Retrofits, Tube Steel Connection Detailing, Wind Tower Foundations, and projects under the jurisdictions of DSA and HCAI.
