  Sandra Bendor is a In my artwork I am dedicated to using superb silks of all types as well as leathers, suedes and silk velvets in creating fine art by hand. I use only materials that have been reclaimed and can be used in such a way as to rescue the fabric by creating another use for it through art. Many of my "raw materials" come from top designers who used exquisite silks in the 20th century. For many years I was a performing artist, singing and acting throughout the world for the US State Department among others. I began collecting silk and creating art while traveling in countries including Thailand, India and Sri Lanka. Many of the hand-sewing and piecing techniques I use were learned while performing for the National Endowment for the Humanities in small towns in the Southwest, the Appalachians and all around the US. My art is Slow Art. While I love to use the technological advances of our time and era in my daily life, I feel the need to balance this by creating artwork by hand in a way that demands a lot of contemplation as well as techniques used in pre-computer and even pre-industrial times.
