Starting as an International Pricing Analyst for Admiral has allowed me to excel in a collaborative team setting- it’s been the perfect chance to apply the statistical knowledge I’ve gained during my studies to the challenging world of Insurance. My training enabled me to work independently and collaboratively on various technical and analytical tasks. I've learnt how to use SAS and SQL to manipulate and present data effectively, which has built upon my use of Excel, MATLAB and R for university projects. Since completing my training, I've used my strong pricing knowledge to help answer customer queries. Alongside this, I'm working on a project that will determine how part of Admiral’s pricing structure needs to evolve in light of the Financial Conduct Authority’s proposal that renewal customers shouldn’t pay more than what they would be paying at new business. This work shows that even hugely successful organisations like Admiral must continually adapt and innovate if they wish to move forward, especially because of the huge challenges that Coronavirus has posed. The next phase of my development involves building strong relationships with our colleagues in the US and learning about the similarities and differences between the US and UK insurance markets. This will help me to become an analyst that takes inspiration from work being done in the UK and see how this can be applied to the US (and vice-versa). My competitiveness and resilience stem from a cricket career which includes Warwickshire Under 19’s and Staffordshire Development Squad representation, whilst also playing 1st team cricket at university and at a Premier Division club. Through cricket I’ve had many chances to take leadership roles, including as the Director of Cricket of the University of Nottingham Men’s Cricket Club, with the extra organisational and personal demands being something that I both enjoy and thrive upon. As well as this, being able to give back by helping to coach the juniors has enabled me to become a strong communicator with people of all ages and backgrounds. Since becoming an ECB Level 2 qualified coach in 2019, I’ve had the opportunity to lead sessions and heavily influence how we maintain a positive culture, which is so essential to the well-being and success of those involved.
