I've enjoyed my career journey which started as a courier in high school and progressed through being vice president/controller, vice president/chief financial officer and finally president/chief executive officer. As a community banker, the boards of directors and management provided me the opportunity to learn many aspects of banking such as asset liability management, commercial and consumer lending, residential and commercial mortgage lending, deposit management and examination oversight. Diversity, equity and inclusion were an integral part of all managment. I eventually transitioned into state government where I was able to use my banking background in public service. I was exposed to the significantly more complex treasury functions of a state government as state cash manager. As deputy state treasurer, I oversaw a team of talented professionals that had over 14 billion in assets under management and was responsible for the investments, banking, cash management, budget/finance, ABLE New Mexico and New Mexico Work and Save programs. I then used my banking and government backgrounds to work in the economic development space to help New Mexico businesses grow and prosper by overseeing a credit enhancement program that bridges the gap between what banks offer and what borrowers need. Certificates of deposit are pledged as additional collateral to encourage banks and other financial institutions to offer more aggressive loan terms.
