During an eighth grade field trip to Washington DC, I was the only student disappointed that we had to skip going on a tour of Mount Vernon in favor of rushing off to King's Dominion. I love to surprise people when it comes to history. I find that most people think history is a stagnant subject, full of boring old stories that are irrelevant in today's world. However history is constantly surprising and if we don't learn our history we cannot inform the present; and if the present is uninformed we cannot adequately prepare for the future. In my role as a membership professional I get to engage with our member database and the community at large and share with them all the reasons why our history continues to be important.
