  Samantha Harris is a I became interested in language and education at a young age from my own identities as a heritage language learner from an immigrant family. As a researcher and educator, I have contributed new knowledge about increasing access and equity and improving curriculum, teaching practices, and academic outcomes for multilingual students from immigrant backgrounds particularly those designated as English Learners and Heritage Language Learners. My areas of expertise include Second Language Acquisition and Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Pedagogy. I have extensive experience in qualitative data collection and analysis, and have developed social justice-oriented language education curriculum, facilitated professional development workshops, and collaborated on program evaluations in a variety of diverse K-12 and higher education settings. My teaching approach is based on the view of language as a social practice and belief that learning should be connected to students' lives, identities, and communities. I have a passion for scholarship that reaches beyond the boundaries of academia and have been channeling this energy into different forms of public-facing efforts including podcasting, informal writing, and even some creative, visual arts projects.
