Salma Majid Email & Phone Number | My research interests focus on the identification and molecular characterization of monogenic as well as polygenic disorders and to look for the early intervention for these genetic disorders. I have been working in the field of genetic disorders for the last 16 years and have attained considerable understanding of rare and common genetic diseases using the latest tools in dissecting and uncovering the novel findings of kaleidoscope of medical genetic disorders. Working on this kaleidoscope of disorders has entailed numerous expertize stemming from DNA sequencing, high-throughput genotyping, genome wide exome capture, or in-silico simulation. Working with the unique rare genetic matter in this population was a tremendous boon and it greatly enhanced my everyday efforts, which is being illustrated by the successful publication track record which I and my fellow colleagues enjoyed. We successfully underlined a large number of genes such as Erlin, Spastacsin, Alsin, B4galnt1, Atl1 and identified novel genetic variants implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. One of other major contributions was in the field of rheumatic disorders, to identify a novel gene called LACC1. The identification of LACC1 and many other genes in disorders like muscular, genodermatosis, coronary artery diseases was possible using advanced genomic tools/ strategies like positional cloning, association studies, linkage analysis, homozygosity mapping, exome sequencing, gene expression profiling along with advanced bioinformatics pipelines.
