Thanks to the classes offered at LBCC I have been able to expand my expertise in digital photography, Adobe, and collaborative projects. Finding journalism was an epiphany, so many of my favorite subjects all in one. Photojournalism assisted my talents in “storytelling photography.” News reporting journalism has taught me the formula for factual news. I have happily contributed a variety of writing such as my research on native indigenous two-spirit people, an article on personal experience self-care, and poetry. Coming from a family owned business, marketing has always come easy to me. Need a plumber? My dad owns Beaver Plumbing, call him. I started cleaning the showrooms and have never stopped assisting in any way I can. Helping with ads on Facebook is fun to see which ones get the biggest responses. Working as an assistant to the owner of a day spa in Newport, Oregon I learned a lot about social posting and how to make easy and effective eye-catching ads. Having my own equipment to photograph products and achieve the right lighting and mood is really no different than a great portrait. Being a good portrait photographer, I am marketing someone’s best self in a variety of headshots. From a simple Facebook profile pic to makeup product sales, it is so important to capture the right moment with the right light. Event planning as a photographer came as a surprise. I was the second photographer for a wedding to gain experience and people kept asking me for instructions while I was taking detailed shots. This was a challenge I gladly stepped up to. I love event planning. I think of every variable and am glad to have my camera on me to capture the execution of every successful moment. I can confidently say that I am an important member to any team but will step up to be a thoughtful leader when given the opportunity.
