A long running own-project involves replacing a plain vanilla mechanical magneto on my motorbike with a computer driven "smart" ignition system which is contained within she original magneto shell - original appearance retained, smarter device. Live testing it, short of riding with an oscilloscope balanced on my knees, requires further smarts to monitor and record (and act as a "blackbox" in the event of failure). That's another microcomputer hidden under the fuel tank. However, who can resist the urge for a quick visual check, so that's a defunct Android phone to mount on the handlebars with a display designed for an instantaneous flagging of all-is-well, or Otherwise. (and some flashy needles as well) So - the correct denomination is "ex-Paid-computer-nerd". The activity, frustrations (& occasional triumphs) remain the same. Passions? Mainly Argentine Tango. It's a work in progress for many years, but at some stage will slide backwards into a "work in regress". I'll be the last to realise it, I'm sure. In recent times, a passion for ice-climbing has emerged. Expertise there is also in regress, but from an already low level. Should have started a few decades earlier.
