Robin Beaumont Email & Phone Number | I am currently working as a Research fellow in the University of Exeter Medical School researching the genetics of birth weight and its association with maternal and offspring metabolic characteristics. I have a strong background in mathematics and statistics, having completed an MMath in 2010 and PhD in mathematics in 2014 at the University of Exeter. My PhD involved using historical climate datasets to investigate the dynamics of the polar vortex, giving me extensive experience of computer programming and high performance computing, manipulation of large datasets and mathematical modelling. I then moved into bioinformatics, joining Prof. Tim Frayling's group looking at the genetics of complex traits at the University of Exeter Medical School and started working with Dr. Rachel Freathy on the genetics of birth weight. Here I have quickly gained a good understanding of genetics and bioinformatics techniques. My projects include searching genome-wide for parent-of-origin effects on birth weight, using analysis of data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents And Children (ALSPAC) and meta-analysis with other studies within the Early Growth Genetics (EGG) Consortium (N>10,000 mother-child pairs) including the UK Biobank study.
